Windows Server 2012 Standard is the successor to Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. As a server operating system born from Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 Standard offers new features such as the modern Windows 8 user interface, numerous new capabilities and programs, as well as the typical server functions, always with high standards of design and performance.

An all-rounder for server management

Windows Server 2012 Standard gives you a reliable operating system with a modern user interface optimised for touchscreens, new features and many other improvements. Windows Server 2012 Standard allows for a Core-only installation, which means you don't need to use the graphical user interface, saving resources. Using Core alone, you can configure the Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Standard operating system using the PowerShell and Windows command prompt. The Core edition of Windows Server 2012 Standard is set as the default, freeing up resources for applications. This is particularly useful when using SQL Server or Hyper-V.

The standard edition of Windows Server 2012 Standard includes new features, such as a revised Task Manager, categorised processes, and the processing and suspension of inactive applications, to improve performance. The new interface also makes it easier to find applications. Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Standard has a new ReFS file system. This is used as a complement to the well-known NTFS and is specifically designed for storing data on server systems.
